Defence Public Sector Undertaking Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has taken a significant step towards bolstering the Indian Navy's capabilities by delivering the first of eight anti-submarine warfare (ASW) shallow water crafts on Thursday.

Dubbed 'INS Arnala,' this state-of-the-art ASW vessel will significantly strengthen the Navy's ability to patrol coastal areas that may harbor lurking enemy submarines. Capable of full-scale sub-surface surveillance and attack, the crafts can also engage in coordinated operations with aircraft, according to GRSE.

Remarkably, the ASW craft was constructed under a public-private partnership model involving GRSE and L&T Kattupalli. Recipient of the Raksha Mantri's Award in 2022 for its design, 'INS Arnala' boasts nearly 88 percent indigenous content, demonstrating India's growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
