In a bold step toward cementing Singapore's status as a preeminent global travel hub, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong broke ground on the innovative Terminal 5 development at Changi Airport. Expected to span more than a decade, the expansive project aims to connect Singapore to over 200 international cities by the 2030s, enhancing its global connectivity.
The Changi Airport Development Fund, initiated in 2015, has already seen SGD11 billion deposited, with an additional SGD5 billion pledged to advance the project further. This ambitious initiative will dramatically boost Changi's passenger capacity, enlarging it by over 50% to accommodate 140 million travelers annually by the time of the first phase completion in the mid-2030s.
