A small fire erupted in the lavatory of the moving Daund-Pune shuttle train on Monday when a passenger purportedly discarded a lit cigarette into a dustbin. This incident incited panic among the passengers onboard, according to police reports.
The quick action of the staff doused the flames without casualties, occurring around 8 a.m. near Yavat in Pune district, as reported by an official from the Daund railway police station. As a precaution, a 55-year-old passenger showing signs of mental instability was detained and handed over to authorities.
The train service, which connects Daund town and Pune city covering 75 km, was delayed for approximately 20 minutes at Yavat station. The disruption stemmed from a bidi, a hand-rolled cigarette from Madhya Pradesh, tossed into the lavatory's dustbin, igniting the trash and causing smoke to fill the area.
