In response to last week's tragic Air India crash, a comprehensive survey of the areas surrounding Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is scheduled. The accident, which claimed 270 lives, has prompted heightened safety measures and regulation proposals from aviation authorities.
Ahmedabad District Collector Sujeet Kumar announced the survey, which will be conducted by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the Civil Aviation department, adhering to DGCA guidelines. This step aims to identify and mitigate potential hazards near the airport.
Concurrently, the civil aviation ministry has introduced the Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions) Rules, 2025 draft. This initiative is a response to the recent tragedy, where the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a nearby medical hostel complex shortly after take-off, resulting in catastrophic loss of life.
