Tragic Collision Highlights Underlying Road Safety Flaws in West Bengal

In a tragic incident, nine people lost their lives in a head-on collision on National Highway 18 in West Bengal's Purulia district. The accident, which took place near Namshol village around 6:30 am, involved a Bolero SUV and a truck, both of which collided with devastating impact.

According to local police, the victims were returning from a wedding ceremony when the fatal crash occurred. Initial investigations point towards overspeeding and negligence as likely contributors to this disastrous event. Emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene but were unable to save the nine occupants of the SUV.

This incident has reignited concerns about road safety standards in the state. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari criticized the management and enforcement of traffic regulations, highlighting systemic failures that lead to such frequent fatalities.
