Surge in Preferential Certificates Boosts India’s Global Trade Dynamics
The issuance of preferential certificates of origin for Indian exporters, crucial for claiming tariff benefits under free trade agreements (FTAs) with Australia and the UAE, has significantly increased in 2024-25. The issuance of preferential certificates of origin for Indian exporters has seen a significant uptick in 2024-25, reflecting the increasing benefits of free trade agreements (FTAs) with Australia and the UAE.
According to Commerce Ministry data, India issued 19% more certificates to Australia and 24.7% more to the UAE compared to the previous year. Notably, 77,234 certificates were issued under the FTA with Australia, up from 64,864, while 122,036 were issued under the UAE agreement versus 98,104 previously.
Overall, 7,20,996 certificates were granted in 2024-25, up from 6,84,724 the previous year, showcasing strengthened trade relations and increased awareness among exporters. Officials attribute this trend to heightened outreach efforts and clarified procedures, highlighting India's growing role in global trade networks.
