In an effort to tackle traffic violations, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued more than 2.3 lakh challans to e-rickshaw drivers for a range of offences from January to June this year. These include improper parking, operating during restricted hours, and licence-related issues.
Officials report that out of the total 2,30,617 challans, a significant majority were on-the-spot, while a substantial number were based on camera surveillance. The crackdown aims to alleviate congestion and improve safety on the roads.
Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Ajay Chaudhary, underscored the importance of adherence to traffic rules to ensure smooth road conditions. Authorities are also impounding vehicles and using CCTV for enforcement. The most common violation has been improper parking, which obstructs traffic flow.
