In response to escalating unrest, Panama's government has enacted a temporary suspension of constitutional rights in the western province of Bocas del Toro. This action follows extensive protests and acts of vandalism that have disrupted the region for over a month.
Businesses and government offices were reportedly ransacked, prompting authorities to enforce measures designed to restore peace. 'In the face of the disruption of order and acts of systematic violence, the state will enforce its constitutional mandate to guarantee peace,' stated Juan Carlos Orillac, minister of the presidency.
The suspension is expected to last for five days, as officials seek to stabilize the situation and restore normalcy in the affected areas.
