A devastating road accident in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district has claimed the lives of a couple and left their three children severely injured, police reported on Sunday.

The tragedy unfolded around 11.30 pm on Saturday near Kheria Bagh on National Highway-719, as the family traveled in an auto-rickshaw towards Mehgaon. The vehicle was struck head-on by a speeding truck arriving from Gwalior, according to Mahesh Sharma, the Mehgaon police station house officer.

Umesh Rajawat, who was driving the auto-rickshaw, and his wife Yashoda, both in their early 40s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their children, aged 4, 12, and 14, sustained serious injuries and were transferred to a sub-health centre for initial treatment before being referred to Gwalior for further care. Authorities have impounded the truck, apprehended its cleaner, and are continuing their search for the driver involved. An investigation is underway.
