US retail behemoth Walmart is advancing plans to source $10 billion in goods from India by 2027, in line with its global supply strategy, revealed CEO Doug McMillon on Tuesday. With expanded sourcing categories and deeper collaborations, Walmart has steadily elevated its procurement activity across India.
In 2020, the company announced its ambitious sourcing target, intended to enhance exports in a variety of sectors, including apparel, food, and toys. The ongoing growth of Walmart's sourcing business is evident, with deeper integration observed between Walmart and its supplier community.
During a two-day tour in India, McMillon observed notable advances such as digital innovation and inclusive supply chain building. Walmart Vriddhi, its supplier development program, has trained over 70,000 MSMEs since 2019, promoting economic empowerment across the nation. The successful Vriddhi model has inspired similar initiatives in Mexico and the US.
