The Gorakhpur Airport is on the brink of a major transformation following an agreement to expand its infrastructure significantly. Officials announced plans for a new terminal, which will increase flight operations from the current 26 to around 200 flights daily.

The passenger handling capacity is also set to expand dramatically, with numbers rising from 270 to 2,500 per hour. This development was made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Indian Air Force, Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the Gorakhpur district administration.

The agreement includes the transfer of 42 acres of land from the Air Force to accommodate the new terminal facilities. Connectivity to the airport will also improve with new access routes planned, ensuring smoother operations and faster turnaround for flights, according to Airport Director Parashar.
