The Ministry of Railways has announced significant changes to its reservation system, extending the chart preparation period from four to eight hours before train departure. This decision aims to aid passengers traveling from remote areas, allowing them better planning opportunities.

The decision emerged from a meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Officials stated that the new system will provide more time for passengers to arrange alternative travel plans if waitlists aren't confirmed, offering the first status updates in advance.

The upgraded Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will see the ticket booking rate soar to 1.5 lakh per minute, a fivefold increase from current capabilities. It features a multilingual and user-friendly interface and adds options for seat choices, fare calendars, and integrated facilities for special needs groups.
