Tamil Nadu made a significant leap towards sustainable public transport on Monday as Chief Minister M K Stalin launched 120 low-roof electric buses in the state. The event marked a pioneering effort by the state-run Metropolitan Transport Corporation to curb pollution.
The strategic move, involving an investment of approximately Rs 207.90 crore, saw the Chief Minister and Transport Minister SS Sivasankar engage with bus drivers and conductors, emphasizing the importance of this eco-friendly transition.
The fleet promises enhanced connectivity across Chennai, operating on key routes including the '18A' route. An electric bus terminus, costing Rs 47.50 crore, was also inaugurated at Vyasarpadi. The event was attended by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Minister P K Sekar Babu and other officials.
