India's industrial production growth experienced a slowdown in May, as reported by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) recorded a 1.2% increase, down from April's 2.7% figure.

A breakdown of the performance in key sectors showed a mixed picture. Mining output contracted slightly by 0.1%, while manufacturing saw a modest increase of 2.6%. In stark contrast, the electricity sector reported a significant decline of 5.8%.

The Quick Estimates for May positioned the IIP at 156.6, a rise from 154.7 in May 2024. As per new release protocols, these estimates will be updated on the 28th of every month, with the next scheduled data release on Monday, July 28, 2025.
