Germany's inflation rate saw an unexpected decline in June, according to preliminary data released by the federal statistics office on Monday. Inflation decreased to 2.0% year-on-year, defying predictions of a slight rise in Europe's largest economy.

The core inflation rate, which omits unstable food and energy prices, also fell slightly from 2.8% in May to 2.7% in June. This data precedes the anticipated euro zone inflation report expected on Tuesday, forecasting a rise to 2.0% in line with ECB targets.

Despite rising inflation in France and Spain, and stability in Italy, Germany's positive trends are attributed to a 3.5% decline in energy prices. Commerzbank warns core inflation might linger higher than desired, despite these developments.
