The Railway Ministry has officially announced a minor fare hike across various classes in mail and express trains, effective from July 1. This adjustment involves a 1 paisa per kilometre increase for non-air-conditioned classes and a 2 paise per kilometre hike for all air-conditioned classes.
Ministry officials had earlier hinted at these revisions, which were confirmed in a circular released Monday. The ordinary second-class fare will remain unchanged for distances up to 500 km but will see a marginal increase beyond that range.
Suburban train fares and monthly season tickets will remain constant, ensuring no increased costs for daily commuters. Meanwhile, premier services like the Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and others will also adhere to the revised fare structure without any increase in ancillary charges or taxes.
