Karnataka's transport department launched a significant crackdown on autorickshaws accused of charging exorbitant fares and operating without proper permissions. A total of 260 cases were registered, and 98 vehicles were seized during the operation.

This decisive move comes on the heels of a directive from state Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who condemned the fare violations in Bengaluru as 'daylight robbery.' In a letter dated June 28, he urged strict actions, including potential permit cancellations for offenders.

To tackle this issue, the department formed 22 special investigation teams across the city's regional transport offices. With the meter fare set at Rs 30 for the first 1.9 km and Rs 15 for every additional kilometre, complaints about rising fares have prompted the urgent response.
