In Washington, India and the US are deep into critical trade negotiations, reportedly entering their sixth day on Tuesday. The Indian delegation, under the leadership of Department of Commerce's Special Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, seeks greater market access for labour-intensive goods.
The discussions are urgent, with the Trump-era reciprocal tariffs' suspension ending on July 9. Originally meant for a short stay, the Indian officials have extended their visit, aiming to finalize an interim trade agreement.
As tensions mount, India is steadfast against US demands for agriculture and dairy concessions. Both nations target doubling bilateral trade to USD 500 billion by 2030, with the first tranche anticipated by fall this year.
