Punjab has registered a record-breaking 44.44% growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections, totaling Rs 2,379.90 crore in June 2025. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced this growth at a media briefing, highlighting Punjab's outperformance against national averages despite ongoing geopolitical tensions.
The state's net GST collections have shown a consistent rising trend with last month's revenue standing Rs 732.21 crore higher than June 2024's collections. Cheema attributed this success to enhanced enforcement and strategic planning, contrasting it with the slower growth under previous administrations.
In an effort to combat tax evasion, the Punjab government's vigilance revealed significant fraudulent activities, including a GST fraud syndicate orchestrating bogus transactions. As Punjab plans to manage substantial debt obligations, Cheema assured the state is on a path of financial stability with strategic investments in funds showing a strong fiscal footing.
