A distressing maritime incident occurred near the Indonesian island of Bali, where a ferry carrying 65 passengers tragically sank. Authorities confirmed on Thursday that four people were found dead, while 38 remain missing.
The vessel, KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, sank shortly after departing Banyuwangi port in East Java, en route to Bali. The boat had 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles aboard.
Rescue efforts are underway despite challenging weather conditions. Such incidents highlight ongoing safety concerns in Indonesia's ferry services, notorious for lax regulations leading to frequent overloading and insufficient life-saving equipment.
