In a significant development for Mizoram, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed the Bairabi-Sairang rail line, which connects the capital city, Aizawl, to India's extensive railway network. The 52-km railway line, a feat of engineering and logistics, is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The project, which cost approximately Rs 8,000 crore, involved sourcing construction materials from various states, including Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and others. Crushed stones, sand, and reinforcement rods were among the key materials transported under challenging circumstances due to the difficult terrain and logistical hurdles.

Chief Engineer Vinod Kumar highlighted the innovative approaches used to transport these materials, including special road arrangements for steel girders. With the completion of this line, Mizoram becomes the fourth northeastern state to link its capital with the national railway network, a significant boost for the region.
