In a pressing call for change, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted the urgent need for impactful second-generation economic reforms, drawing a parallel with the landmark 1991 liberalisation budget. Kharge accused the Narendra Modi government of exhibiting 'inherent inertia' over the past 11 years, hindering India's growth potential.
The Congress leader alleged that the Modi government's "disastrous economic policies" were responsible for India's sub-par growth rate and widening inequality. According to Kharge, the current administration lacks both the vision and action required to address crucial economic challenges.
On the 34th anniversary of the transformative 1991 budget, Kharge emphasized its pivotal role in shaping India's economy and urged for a renewed commitment to reforms. He underlined the need to tackle issues such as stagnating wages, depleted household savings, and a troubling trade war to benefit both the middle class and the impoverished.
