In a significant update on railway ticketing, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha that digital bookings have surged, with 89% of reservations now made online. This trend reflects a major shift in how passengers secure their train tickets.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has taken a tough stance against fraudulent practices, deactivating over 2.5 crore suspicious User IDs. This measure, according to Vaishnaw, aims to eliminate malpractices and enhance the integrity of the booking system.

To accommodate diverse demand patterns, Indian Railways has introduced schemes such as VIKALP and instituted measures to bolster capacity during peak times, ensuring better access for passengers. Future plans include exclusive Aadhaar-authenticated bookings for certain schemes to further streamline the process.
