A tragic collision between a long-distance bus and a dump truck in Ivory Coast has left at least 16 people dead and more than 50 injured, as reported by the Transportation Ministry.
The bus was en route from San Pedro, a city in southwestern Ivory Coast, to the neighboring country of Burkina Faso, when the crash occurred on Sunday evening, according to officials.
The ministry confirmed the death toll and reported 51 injuries, with the wounded taken to a regional hospital. An investigation has been launched to examine the cause of the accident. Notably, Ivory Coast has a high road fatality rate, with the United Nations citing about 21 deaths per 100,000 people annually.
