Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan confidently asserted in the Lok Sabha that numerous farmers have seen their incomes more than double, thanks to significant interventions by the government.
Chouhan highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, record-breaking purchases at minimum support prices and timely distribution of subsidized fertilizers have materially benefited farmers. The government has also settled substantial insurance claims worth Rs 1.83 lakh crore.
In contrast, Chouhan criticized the former UPA government for dismissing the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations on minimum support prices by deeming them market distortive, whereas Modi's government has implemented them, incorporating a 50% profit margin over production costs.
