French sports retailer Decathlon announced Tuesday its intention to elevate India's role in its global operations, committing to source USD 3 billion worth of goods from the country by 2030. Presently, India constitutes 8% of Decathlon's global sourcing, a figure aimed to burgeon to 15% within seven years.
Decathlon's strategy underscores high-potential categories, namely footwear, fitness equipment, and technical textiles, to cater to the shifting demands of Indian and global consumers. For Decathlon's India retail operations, local sourcing presently accounts for over 70% of marketed goods—with aspirations to expand this to 90% by 2030.
The company has embedded a robust local production ecosystem, featuring a Design Centre, 113 manufacturing sites, 83 suppliers, and 7 production offices across India. Last year, Decathlon committed an investment of 100 million euros in India, vital to its rapid market growth and profitability. In FY'24, Decathlon generated over Rs 4,000 crore in revenue in India.
