The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is under fire for operating leased electric vehicles (EVs) without the requisite fitness certificates and insurance, according to sources familiar with the situation.
These revelations have sparked concerns among BEST employees and union leaders, prompting calls for accountability amongst officials. Despite the vehicles being hired from Nagpur-based Sargo Overseas Private Limited, whose responsibility it is to ensure all documentation is up to date, BEST has yet to address this lapse publicly.
Legal repercussions are looming, with potential fines and imprisonment on the table for driving vehicles lacking necessary certifications. Regional authorities have indicated they will issue a show-cause notice to the leasing company responsible.
