Kolkata's Metro Railway is set to partially demolish the Kavi Subhash station after detecting cracks on the columns. The damage was attributed to foundation subsidence from recent heavy rainfall, compelling a service halt between New Garia and Dakshineswar.
A spokesperson informed that while the New Garia station will see some facilities demolished, services on the Orange Line remain unaffected. This action marks the first instance of dismantling a Kolkata Metro station due to structural concerns.
The tender process for reconstruction has begun, with work slated to commence promptly. Despite the disruption, officials assured the safety of passengers and affirmed that other stations across the metro line remain sound.
