The Indian Railways is set to improve train safety with the rollout of the advanced Kavach 4.0 system on the Mathura-Kota section. A significant leap in train protection technology, this system has received the green light from an independent safety assessor and is prepared for commissioning, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided an update in the Lok Sabha, underscoring Kavach's strategic deployment across the network. Till now, 1,548 route kilometers in the South Central and North Central Railways have been equipped with the system. Additionally, progress is underway on the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah corridors, covering approximately 3,000 route kilometers.

Kavach plays a crucial role in ensuring train safety, automatically applying brakes if a loco pilot fails to adhere to speed limits. It enhances safety during harsh weather conditions, representing a significant investment in modernizing rail infrastructure. The installation's projected total costs are set at a substantial 2,015 crore rupees, with continued financial allocations for further deployments.
