The recent Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express accident at Kavaraipettai station in Southern Railway's Chennai Division has been confirmed as an act of sabotage by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), A M Choudhary. The investigation revealed that miscreants tampered with the track interlocking system, leading to a devastating collision.
Notably, the quick response of loco pilot G Subramani, who applied emergency brakes promptly, significantly reduced the severity of the collision. In recognition of his alertness, he is being recommended for the prestigious Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar.
The Railway Ministry has called for stringent security enhancements, with the Special Intelligence Branch coordinating efforts to thwart future sabotage attempts, focusing on potential insider threats. Preventive measures, including increased patrolling and anti-theft initiatives, aim to secure vulnerable railway sectors.
