Turbulence Turmoil: Rising Concerns in Air Travel
A Delta flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam faced severe turbulence, leading to its diversion to Minneapolis. Twenty-five passengers needed medical attention. Although rare, severe turbulence incidents are reportedly increasing, potentially due to climate change's impact on the jet stream.

A Delta flight en route from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam experienced severe turbulence Wednesday night, causing injuries among passengers and necessitating a diversion to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the airline reports.
Upon landing, medical personnel quickly attended to the injured, with 25 passengers transported to nearby hospitals for further evaluation and care.
While major injuries from in-flight turbulence are uncommon, experts suggest such events might be rising as the jet stream is altered by climate change. This incident follows a fatal turbulence case on a Singapore Airlines flight in May 2024.
