Union Cabinet Boosts PMKSY Budget to Enhance Food Processing Sector
The Union Cabinet has approved an increase in the budget for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, raising the outlay by Rs 1,920 crore to Rs 6,520 crore. The funds are aimed at advancing the food processing sector, including the establishment of food irradiation units and testing labs.

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved a significant increase in the budgetary allocation for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), boosting it by Rs 1,920 crore to a total of Rs 6,520 crore.
This increase, to be implemented in the current fiscal year, is set to support 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 food testing laboratories across the country. The decision was made during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Launching initially in 2017 and extended till the end of the 2025-26 fiscal period, PMKSY's enhanced funding is aimed at fulfilling the government's budget announcement to further stimulate growth in the food processing sector.
