In a significant boost to the Indian Railways, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has greenlit four expansive projects. These developments, valued at approximately Rs. 11,169 crore, aim to extend the rail network by 574 km across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand.

Designed to significantly bolster operational efficiency, these projects include constructing a fourth line between Itarsi and Nagpur, doubling the railway line between Aurangabad and Parbhani, and adding third and fourth lines between Aluabari Road and New Jalpaiguri as well as Dangoaposi and Jaroli. The government emphasizes the projects' alignment with the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan to enhance multimodal connectivity and logistics.

The initiative is projected to bolster connectivity for around 2,309 villages with a combined population of 43.60 lakh. Additionally, the projects will bring environmental gains by reducing oil imports by 16 crore litres and cutting CO2 emissions by 515 crore kg, comparable to planting 20 crore trees.
