UK Flight Chaos: Technical Glitch Grounds Hundreds of Flights
A technical glitch caused over a hundred flight cancellations across UK airports, with no evidence of malicious activity. Transport Minister Heidi Alexander confirmed the disruption was resolved, and National Air Traffic Services apologized. Ryanair calls for accountability following repeated air traffic control issues.

A technical issue severely disrupted over a hundred flights across UK airports on Wednesday, leading to widespread cancellations. Heidi Alexander, the Transport Minister, addressed the situation, noting that it was an isolated incident with no signs of malicious activity.
National Air Traffic Services (NATS) successfully switched to a backup system and restored normal capacity by late Wednesday. Heathrow, Gatwick, and Edinburgh were among the affected airports. NATS reiterated that the disruption was not cyber-related and extended an apology to those affected.
More than 145 flights were cancelled as airlines worked to clear the backlog. The incident follows an August disruption, prompting Ryanair's Neal McMahon to demand NATS Chief Executive Martin Rolfe's resignation, criticizing a lack of learning from past failures.
