Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has announced the state's ambitious goal to create a USD 1 trillion economy, aligning with India's larger USD 5 trillion target. The Chief Minister has solicited support from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to help realize this vision. The announcement was made during a meeting with Ajay Kumar Pandey, Vice President at AIIB.
Fadnavis detailed a structured development plan, divided into short-term, mid-term, and long-term phases. He emphasized that AIIB's financial backing will be crucial for ongoing and future infrastructure projects. Key projects have already been presented to national authorities like NITI Aayog and the Union Finance Ministry for approval, focusing on essential sectors such as river-linking and renewable energy.
The state government is eyeing massive renewable energy developments, including a goal to generate 1,00,000 MW of power through pump storage systems. The initiative has attracted considerable private interest, and there is a push to integrate private companies with AIIB resources. Moreover, Maharashtra's solar-powered irrigation schemes are set to revolutionize agricultural practices, serving as a model for other Indian regions. Urban development, including metro systems and highways, also forms a critical part of the infrastructure expansion strategy.
