Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is set to engage in crucial discussions with exporters from diverse sectors in Mumbai. The meetings, happening from August 2-4, respond to the US-imposed 25% tariff on Indian goods, which an industry official confirmed on Friday.
Among those participating in these deliberations are exporters from fisheries, engineering, IT, and pharmaceuticals. Leather industry representatives are scheduled to meet the minister on August 4, amid growing concerns over the tariff's impact on trade volumes.
The recent US decision targets about half of India's USD 86 billion exports, heavily affecting sectors like textiles, gems, and shrimp. Despite ongoing negotiations, New Delhi firmly resists concessions on agricultural and GM products. Exporters urge immediate government action to prevent economic hardships and do not compromise the livelihoods of millions involved in these industries.
