In a significant boost to maritime connectivity, Maldives is mobilizing a USD 6.48 million grant from India to enhance its public ferry network, according to state-run media reports on Saturday.
The grant is part of 13 Memorandums of Understanding signed on May 18 between the two countries, aiming to augment ferry services across the island nation under the High Impact Community Development Project Phase III.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ibrahim Yasir informed that four new ferries are under construction for the current network, with 12 more planned to expand the service. The project aims for completion by year-end, promising significant socio-economic benefits.
