In a significant advancement for commuter safety, Western Railway is preparing to install the indigenous anti-collision Kavach system on Mumbai's local trains by the end of next year. This enhancement is one of the latest moves in the 'Make in India' initiative, aiming to bolster safety on bustling rail routes.
The Kavach system, known for its state-of-the-art features, will replace the current Auxiliary Warning System in use by Western Railway. This advanced Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system is designed to automatically manage train speeds and prevent collisions, addressing human error susceptibility.
According to railway officials, Kavach will elevate safety by integrating real-time train-to-signal station communication, aiding in preventing train collisions, signal violations, and improving overall operational efficiency. This strategic upgrade is set to cover over 2358 route kilometres and promises to significantly enhance local rail service security by 2025.
