The All India Railwaymen's Federation (AIRF) has issued a demand for railway staff travelling allowances ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha and 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The request emphasizes compensation for those who manage duties often marked by demanding workload and responsibilities.
Shiv Gopal Mishra, AIRF general secretary, has formally communicated with the Railway Board. He noted that employees of Delhi and central government bodies have already received their travel allowances for similar election duties performed during both general and assembly elections. However, railway staff remain excluded from this benefit.
Mishra has identified a need for prompt action from authorities, mentioning past clear instructions from Delhi's finance department endorsing such allowances. The equivalence of benefits for railway personnel on election duties was echoed in the Railway Board's earlier correspondence. Mishra insists on urgent policy action to correct this oversight, arguing that it will help maintain administrative fairness and boost railway workers' morale.
