Domestic automobile retail sales in India witnessed a 4% year-on-year decline in July, as announced by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). The drop was attributed to a high-base effect from the previous year, along with waning demand for passenger vehicles and two-wheelers.
FADA reported overall registrations at 19,64,213 units, compared to 20,52,759 units in July 2024. While the passenger vehicle sector saw a slight decrease, commercial vehicle sales experienced marginal growth, driven mainly by urban demand and strategic marketing initiatives.
As the festive season approaches, dealers are optimistic about sales recovery, aided by targeted rural marketing and strategic stock management. However, external factors, such as US tariff hikes and market volatility, could potentially challenge consumer confidence and spending in the near term.
