In an effort to streamline traffic management and improve emergency response capabilities, the Meghalaya Police have launched seven branch-specific traffic control helpline numbers in Shillong, an official statement revealed.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem, announced the initiative on Thursday, emphasizing its objective to expedite the reporting and resolution of traffic issues such as congestion, vehicle breakdowns, accidents, and unsafe road conditions.
Given the city's challenging hilly terrain and narrow roads, features common to several hill stations, Shillong is particularly susceptible to traffic snarls, notably during peak hours and adverse weather conditions. The establishment of these helplines is a strategic move towards fostering a more efficient and responsive traffic management system.
