The United States' imposition of a 50% tariff on Indian goods has been labeled as a "bullying tactic" by Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal. During a press conference on Friday, he condemned the action as an attempt to exert control over India's burgeoning economy.
Minister Balagopal pointed out the damaging effects these tariffs could have, particularly on the export of key Indian products like fish, spices, textiles, coir, and cashews, heavily imported by the United States. Such measures, he argued, would also disrupt the taxation systems and harm various sectors including health, education, and services.
Comparing the situation to colonial times when Britain controlled India's economy, Balagopal called for resistance, affirming India's strength and refusing to succumb to economic pressures from abroad.
