In New Delhi, Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, emphasized that the key to India's economic aspirations lies in the advancement of sustainable agriculture. Speaking at a national conference, Athawale underlined the necessity of centering economic transformation around farmers for realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Viksit Bharat'.
The 2nd Sustainable Agriculture Summit & Awards 2025, organized by Sustainability Matters and IndiAgri, witnessed participation from a broad spectrum of influential stakeholders. Athawale stated that a robust agricultural foundation is pivotal for inclusive and resilient economic growth, urging the need for initiatives that harmonize sustainability with farmer welfare.
Former Secretary Dr. Jayadev Sarangi highlighted agriculture's evolution from just about food security to an economic strategy. With India's agri-credit surpassing Rs. 20 lakh crore in FY2024, a call was made for investment focus on long-term climate-resilient infrastructure.
Manoj Kumar Dubey of Indian Railway Finance Corporation advocated for public-private collaboration to channel funds towards green innovations, emphasizing that financing climate-smart agriculture is crucial for India's economic future. Panelists noted that grassroots execution significantly influences policy outcomes, with district innovations diversifying incomes and tackling climate challenges.
In Ferozepur, IAS Officer Deepshikha introduced crop diversification by promoting chilli cultivation, enhancing both income and soil health. Recognizing district-level sustainable practices, other notable officers were also awarded for their initiatives. Local actions were deemed most effective when supported by strong market linkages and rural entrepreneurship.
Dr. Rajendra Prasad from SIDBI invited collaborative efforts to harness international resources for climate mitigation projects, aligned with the government's 'Viksit Krishi' mission. Emphasizing science-led innovations, IPL Biologicals' Dr. Vimala Prakash underscored the role of biologicals and precision tools in transforming agriculture.
Siba P Mohanty of Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited emphasized the importance of responsible input management and water stewardship for a secure agricultural future. His insights resonated with the summit's spirit, aiming for agriculture to act as a catalyst rather than a constraint for growth.
Dr. Navneet Anand from Sustainability Matters concluded that the platform aims to document successful ground practices under 'Krishi 2047', fostering dialogue and policy linkages to promote these models nationwide.
