Kargil's apricots have reached the international markets of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar for the first time, facilitated by India's One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced this development on X, emphasizing the program's role in exporting 1.5 metric tons of apricots.
Minister Goyal cited the export milestone as proof of rising global demand for Indian fruits, attributing this success to the Modi government's focus on farmers' welfare and regional economic development.
The ODOP initiative, a venture of the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), strives to stimulate regional growth by selecting and promoting unique products from each district for export. The initiative aligns with the Developing Districts as Export Hubs (DEH) program, intending to transform districts into robust export contributors.
