Delhi Police have arrested eighteen individuals involved in defrauding State Bank of India credit card holders across India, excluding Delhi, of approximately Rs 2.6 crore.

The suspects utilised confidential customer data, acquired through insiders at a Gurugram-based call centre, to pose as bank officials and obtain sensitive information like OTPs and CVVs. They subsequently used these credentials to purchase electronic gift cards, which were sold to travel agents. The fraudulent earnings were laundered using cash and Tether cryptocurrency, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Vinit Kumar.

The fraudsters included masterminds Ankit Rathi, Waseem, and Vishal Bhardwaj, along with call centre employees Vishesh Lahori and Durgesh Dhakad. The arrests were made following a six-month investigation. The police seized 52 mobile phones, numerous SIM cards, and customer bank details, raising serious concerns about data protection failures at the Teleperformance call centre.
