IndianOil and Air India Partner for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Supply

In a landmark step aimed at curbing carbon emissions in India's aviation industry, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IndianOil) and Air India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday for the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The agreement was formalized by Shailesh Dhar, Executive Director (Aviation) at IndianOil, and P. Balaji, Group Head for Governance, Regulatory, Compliance, and Corporate Affairs at Air India, with esteemed figures like A. S. Sahney, Chairman of IndianOil, and Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, witnessing the event.
The MoU highlights a shared vision to accelerate the shift toward cleaner air travel, contributing significantly to global decarbonization goals. IndianOil's Chairman, A. S. Sahney, emphasized, "Signing this MoU with Air India represents a strategic thrust in our transition towards sustainable aviation." He mentioned that IndianOil's ISCC-CORSIA-certified SAF from its Panipat Refinery is poised to decarbonize air travel, showcasing the company's readiness to lead in sustainable fuel production.
The collaboration marks a milestone for IndianOil, as it becomes the first Indian entity to achieve ISCC CORSIA certification, confirming its compliance with international standards for sustainability. Air India's partnership with IndianOil aligns with its sustainability agenda, as noted by CEO Campbell Wilson. He reaffirmed Air India's commitment to support government sustainability initiatives and achieve the IATA Net Zero by 2050 target. By integrating certified green fuels into its operations, this partnership seeks to establish a reliable SAF supply chain that could surpass CORSIA standards.
