Traders in Sadar Bazaar, a major wholesale market in the city, are embracing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for promoting local products by putting up posters that read 'swadeshi products available'. Over 15 stores have already joined the movement, as reported by Paramjit Singh Pamma, chairperson of the Federation of Sadar Bazaar Traders Association (FESTA).

Pamma stated that the association is visiting shops with these posters to encourage participation and ensure they stock 'swadeshi' goods. He added that the prime minister's assurance of revising GST on certain products by Diwali should make Indian products more affordable in comparison to their foreign counterparts.

With nearly 40,000 shops in Sadar Bazaar, the campaign aims to reach all by the festive season. Emphasizing 'aatmanirbharta' or self-reliance, Modi's speech comes amid rising tensions with the US, following tariff hikes on Indian goods.
