Amidst heavy rains, a monorail train carrying around 200 passengers came to a standstill between Mysore Colony and Bhakti Park in Mumbai on Tuesday evening due to a power failure, sparking a challenging rescue mission.
Panic arose among passengers as the air conditioning system ceased functioning, prompting complaints of suffocation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured that all passengers would be safely evacuated and that an investigation would follow to assess the incident's cause.
Rescue operations were conducted by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority alongside the fire brigade and municipal corporation, utilizing snorkel cranes. Medical teams remained on site, and relief buses were ready to transport those rescued, as reassured by municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani.
