The railway services were suspended between Pathankot and Nurpur Road after the Chakki Khad bridge's piers were swept away by intense rainfalls. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha that restoration is well underway.
The bridge, situated on the hilly Pathankot Cantt-Jogindernagar narrow gauge route, was severely affected in August 2022, prompting immediate action for its repair and strengthening.
Beyond repairs, the Railways are coordinating with state governments to tackle illegal mining, a potential contributor to infrastructural vulnerabilities. Efforts to prevent such illegal activities are being actively pursued to ensure safe and seamless train operations.
