Maharashtra officials will enforce a ban on heavy vehicles traveling on the Mumbai-Goa National Highway during the Ganesh festival, commencing on August 27. This decision aims to enhance convenience for the numerous devotees traveling to the Konkan region, a senior government official announced on Wednesday.
The restrictions will affect vehicles 16 tonnes or heavier, including trucks and trailers, and last from midnight of August 23 to 11 pm on August 28. Further curbs are planned for August 31, September 2, and Anant Chaturdashi on September 6-7, aligning with major festival events.
Exemptions apply to those transporting essential commodities or engaged in roadworks. Authorities in Navi Mumbai and the Konkan district can modify restrictions as needed. Dedicated traffic arrangements will support uninterrupted cargo flows at major ports during this period, stated transport department official Rajendra Holkar.
